It’s hard to believe this is the 10th day of our challenge. Rules are simple: If you need my prompt below, use it. If not, still write. JUST WRITE. If you chose to share (I hope you do; that’s kinda the point), post what you wrote into the comments or share via Notes.
Resistance and Surrender
Let me be honest. This thing I’m doing here, this 200-words-a-day challenge is not my fault. I wanted nothing—I mean, NOTHING—to do with it. It’s her fault (you know who you are).
It is the fault of my friend @KimBooYork, who like me—hell, like most of us—is keenly aware of the fear of being vulnerable in public.
It is the fault of my friend who has watched me come up with all the excuses in the world not to finish my writing projects (uhm…because then, I’d have to put them ‘out there’ and they might get… judged! Ewww.). Important note for context: that part in parentheses … that wasn’t something I’d consciously recognized. But my friend did. Damn.
So she instigated this challenge … issued it several times, actually, before I finally, reluctantly, surrendered.
Ten days into it, I now realize this was her genius-sneaky way to help me sidestep the resistance of sharing and the fear of judgment and move closer to my dreams of being a writer. You see, since I keep promises to other people far better than I keep them to myself (identify, maybe?), the only way I’d ever follow through on this challenge was to do it very publicly.
Wait, wha…? Did she trick me?
So here I am on Substack, every day, putting words on the page and sharing them. And the strangest thing… it’s fun! And it’s getting a bit easier every day. Hmm, maybe I’ll even share my fiction when this challenge is complete.
What, wha…? Dang! I have been tricked.
Genius move, my friend. Well played.
Your Prompt / Day 10 of 31
Is there something you intensely want to do but have a great deal of resistance around? Do you know the source—the true source—of that resistance? Is there one thing you could do this week that could help you sidestep the resistance and surrender into your goal or dream?
Thanks for joining me in this challenge! Please invite your friends.
I’m loving these short passages and I would also love to read your fiction
