More words today! Plus a prompt as well. If you don’t need it, write about whatever … JUST WRITE. The extra challenge is to put your words OUT into the world by sharing your writing in the comments or via Notes. I hope you accept it.
The Persistent Spark
There’s this story idea that I am simply unable to evade. Not that I want to.
It’s just that I came up with it ages ago… nearing two decades now… but then I had to set it aside for multiple reasons and for soooo long that I nearly forgot I had the idea.
Then about six months ago, a door opened that gave me new hope related to my writing (okay, no secrets between us… it’s the concept of subscriptions for authors). The moment that door opened, old, undeveloped ideas resurfaced, unexpectedly and suddenly. In particular, that persistent one, that little hidden spark of an idea got some air, and it flared.
For the next few weeks, everywhere I turned, things popped up that either reminded me of it, related to it somehow, or—even better—further informed it. The list of synchronicities and connections was long! They were so frequent and so many in number that I started to lose track.
But I had no choice but to pay attention. I was getting an undeniable message that this idea is one I must follow. I accepted the message—you don’t need to hit me over the head a thousand times… well, maybe.
I’ve been arranging my life so I can eventually give this story idea attention. For now, it seems satisfied to wait in the wings while I finish my current novel-in-progress. But every now and then, like last night, another series of mind-blowing synchronicities unfolds, each one a tap-tap-tap on the shoulder (or my head) reminding me it’s still there.
Your Prompt / Day 23 of 31
Have you ever had a story or book idea that would not go away? Is there one now that’s pleading to be tended to? What would it take for you to give it some attention?
To be perfectly honest, it has been HILARIOUS to watch you get nerf-batted by the universe with all these very pointed reminders! 😁
On the more serious side of things, this is such a vivid demonstration of how we get chosen by the stories, not the other way around. We can chose to write the stories or not (or ignore the calling completely) but the starting point is the story choosing US.
