A day of travel and a bit of disorientation for reasons that don’t matter here and I missed posting yesterday, so there’ll be two separate prompts today!
If you haven’t joined the challenged yet, jump in now. After my micro-essay is a writing prompt you can use or take it as inspiration to write whatever you want. JUST WRITE! At least 200 words. Share what you’ve written in the comments below or via Notes. That’s the real challenge of this challenge: getting accustomed to sharing. If I can do it, you can too!
What’s Old is New Again
Yesterday was a rainy summer day in the NC mountains. And exceptionally cool. When I ventured out for a sandwich, it was 64 degrees… at 2 in the afternoon!
At home in Florida, my husband and friends are enduring heat indices over 100 degrees. I’ve lived away from these mountains and been in the Sunshine State for nearly 40 years, so to experience the mid-60s in the middle of summer was disorienting!
Other than the sandwich run to my favorite local sub shop, I spent the day at my computer, not unlike how I spend most weekdays in my home office. I camped out on my parents’ couch to edit a book about the various ways to set up serial stories and serialized novels (yes, there’s a diff).
This is a whole new world for me. It’s confusing and different. I’ve got some old ways of thinking about novels and publishing that I have to let go of. I have a LOT to learn.
But I’m committed to knowing more because I strongly believe this method of story delivery and consumption is about to enjoy a huge renaissance. ‘Renaissance’ because… it’s been done before… by Edith Wharton, Charles Dickens, James Joyce, to name but a few. It’s an old-new way of doing things.
Your Prompt / Day 26 of 31
Have you ever experienced a significant shift in your perspective or way of thinking about something or someone? What were the circumstances? How did the shift affect you? Did you resist it or embrace it?
