I don’t know about you, but my daily entries are getting longer (whee)! Here’s mine, with your prompt below. Or write about whatever you want … JUST WRITE. And please share, put your words OUT into the world for others to see. If I can do it, so can you.
When We Invite What We Want
For our 25th wedding anniversary, my husband and I went on an Alaskan cruise; a seaplane excursion would take us from one of the ports to a glacier lake where we’d enjoy a salmon bake on the shore. After deplaning, halfway between the dock and the lodge, I froze in my tracks.
A sweet wooden bench surrounded by flowers. The lake, glacier, and blue skies behind them.
A breathtaking vista, certainly. But what stopped me was the realization that ten years earlier, I’d passed through our living room at the exact moment an Alaskan landscape was emblazoned on our TV screen. Without hesitation or emotion, I told my husband, “We’re going there.” Then I went on about my business. Time passed. I forgot that moment... until, unplanned, we were standing in the exact spot where the cameraman had shot that vista I’d seen on our TV ten years before. Destiny?
Earlier this year, I got a call from a writer. “I’d been thinking this morning that going to a retreat might be good for me right now,” she said. “And then your Story Camp retreat come up on my Facebook feed!” Coincidence?
A friend has dreamed of owning property in Wisconsin, still maintaining a connection to Florida. While writing her book, she had struggled financially, so that dream seemed out of reach. Frustrated, she recently reminded the universe (source, God, substitute the word that works for you) of all the business skills she has and asked to be shown how to use them to fulfill her dream. At dinner together last week, she shared that she’s been inundated with new clients and her savings are growing. Is that manifestation?
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about intuition, resistance, making dreams come true, living full out.
You can call events like the ones described above by whatever name suits your belief system. But I’ve come to the conclusion that they all boil down to a willingness to ‘invite in’ the things we want in our lives and having the openness to receive it, in whatever timing it happens. That’s hard for controlling humans to swallow (**pointing at self**). We prefer to MAKE things happen.
I want a writer’s life and lifestyle (I have a specific vision; not a romanticized one). I’ve felt for years this was unattainable. But when I think about ‘inviting in’ the things necessary to make that happen, resistance recedes, my heart opens, and possibility feels at my fingertips.
Life feels as if it’s happening for me rather than to me.
Your Prompt / Day 6 of 31
Look back on your life to identify when things happened easily and for you? What were the circumstances and the other people involved? Did you throw it off as coincidence? a ‘sign’? manifestation? something else? What do you want to ‘invite in’ to your life in order to make one of your dreams come true?
Please comment on each other’s shares. The rules are simple: (1) be kind, (2) no critiquing (unless the author explicitly requests it), (3) let the author know what in their writing resonated with you, or perhaps made you think differently or gave you a ‘aha.’
Thanks for joining me in this challenge! Please invite your friends.
