The Briarhoppers are still mentioned occasionally on WBT, especially when they are airing retrospectives (often on the station's anniversary).

You had my full attention with "Some of us are meant to simply be the listeners, the admirers, the enthusiasts of music." That certainly applies to me. I struggled with piano lessons as a child practicing on my Grandmothers upright. How I wish I had a photo of that abused and broken instrument. Thanks for this wonderful reflection.

I appreciate you reading, Linda. I can't deny some regret that I don't have musical abilities. But I'm pretty sure there's not much I can do about it. So I may as well lean into the enthusiast part.

My aunt had a console like that in the 70's too. She loved music, and passed that love on to me.

This was a fantastic essay, I really enjoyed it. Thank you for the heads up, too, about 'Drenched in Place".
