I love reading this, just getting some insight into what is inspiring you. I mean, yeah, we talk every week at least, but this is a bit more...internalized? Seeing where you are at, and what's on your mind. You really are a lyrical writer, which I admire so much.
What a beautiful song. Thanks for sharing that. Yes, it was a hotel in St. Augustine that was called the Ponce de Leon where the owner put acid in the pool water rather than allow Black people to swim. It was one of those things my mother often talked about it -- with horror.
It's unbelievable, but true, those things happened right in our communities. Glad you liked the song. I hope you'll check out more of their music. Their voices are entrancing.
When I first saw those mules, I cried tears of joy. What a beautiful collaboration of man and beast.
On Catherine Marshall, I'll be very interested in how that goes for you. I've not read any of hers, but she was an early favorite of Mom's back in the day. I'm pretty sure Mom got a response to a letter she sent Marshall. I think I've seen it here somewhere... Mom had a little picture gallery of her favorite writers and Marshall was one of them. I didn't realize she wrote Appalachian stories.
Glad your choice to cancel your project turned out to be the best call.
Can you believe there's another swirl heading for the gulf???

I saw Rafael, but they think after he threatens Puerto Rico that he'll weaken. 🤞
If you lay your hands on that Marshall letter, let me know!
